You can access the board layout option by clicking on the layout switcher in the top right corner of the application:
The dropdown menu at the top right will also allow you to make adjustments to the appearance of your dartboard, including adjusting the appearance of:
Subtasks (choose to have them indented, collapsed or flat)
Absent parents (toggle on or off)
This is only relevant if tasks on the list are subtasks of other tasks. If the tasks they are subtasks of are in different dartboards or are filtered out in some way, you will be able to visualize them with the toggle on.
Group by (Status is the default for board layout)
Hide empty groups (toggle on to hide groups that contain no tasks)
You can also add various Properties to your Board layout, including elements such as Assignees, Tags, Priority, and more:
Creating tasks in board layout
To create a new task in your Board layout, simply hover over the desired status board (To-Do, Doing, etc.). Once your cursor is over a board you will see a "+" at the top right of the board, as well as a "New Task" icon directly below:
Click on either option to add a new task. Double-click on any task to add further details, such as Assignee, Status, Description, Attachments, Notes, and more.
Changing status, moving tasks
There are two ways to change the status of a task in Dart's board layout:
Manual update
- Click on the task to open its details, then select the desired status from the dropdown menuDrag and drop
- Simply drag the task into the most relevant status column on the board. This updates the task's status automatically
Note on subtasks:
When dragging a parent task that contains subtasks, only the top-level task will move unless the parent is marked as done. In that case, the subtasks will follow the parent into the "Done" status column. This behavior helps maintain clarity for subtasks that may still be in progress.
Collapsing and expanding columns
Need to focus on just one or two columns? You can shrink or collapse them as needed by clicking on the double-arrow button at the top of the column, just to the right of the Status label. To expand a collapsed column, simply click on it again:
Need even more flexibility? Dart provides you with various ways to filter and sort your boards.
Swimlanes
Swimlanes let you organize your board with an extra layer of filtering, making task management more visual and efficient. Each lane represents a distinct category based on the property you choose, such as assignee, priority, size, etc.
You may turn on the swimlanes feature by clicking the layout editor in the top right corner of your Dart screen.
A good setup to try is:
Group by Status to track progress
Swimlanes by Assignee to spotlight ownership
