AI planning is a default AI skill in Dart that helps you transform a set of tasks into a fully executable project plan. Available on the Premium plan and above, this feature works automatically to assign teammates, set realistic timelines, and ensure smooth task execution.
How to use AI planning
AI planning is a default skill that you can access in different ways:
Through AI chat, by simply asking to run project planning on your dartboard
From the dropdown menu in the top right corner of Dart
Clicking it inside AI chat if you have set it as one of your top skills in settings or by typing "@" and selecting "Plan this project"
If something is unclear in the task details, Dart AI may ask a clarifying question, but it’s designed to handle most planning automatically.
What AI planning does
When you run AI planning, Dart AI updates all the tasks in your dartboard to create a project plan that runs from today to 30 days from today. Specifically, by default it will:
Assign or re-assign tasks to the teammate best suited for each one
Set realistic start and due dates within the project window
Avoid overlapping dates for the same assignee while allowing overlaps across different assignees for parallel work
Preserve priority and size values unless there’s a clear mismatch with the task details
Directly update your tasks with the new dates, assignments, and adjustments
You can always edit this skill at any time in settings, or even create your own alternatives to run in specific situations. See the AI skills article for more.
