Setting up an epic

Set up your first epic with this step-by-step explainer

Updated over 3 weeks ago

An epic is a task type representing a high-level project initiative. Epics are often large and therefore broken down into smaller parts that make the epic manageable. For many, they are also useful for grouping similar or recurring work together.

If you need to set up an epic, here's how you do it:

Start from scratch

The first step is to make a new dartboard, or a new space and dartboard for your epic. You can also replicate an existing space or dartboard to use as your epic.

Setting up an epic

Create your type

Create a type for Epic and customize your status workflow:

Then, make sure you set your type as the default in your new epic dartboard:

Add your projects/epics

You can now add in high-level project details or your epics into the dartboard.

Linking other dartboard tasks to your epic

Once you have your epic space and dartboard, as well as project details, you can link other tasks in your other dartboards to your epic. These, in practice, become "subtasks" of the epic they belong to. To "link" your "subtasks" add a "relate to" signifier in it, pointing back to your epic.

Start by creating an epic in your Epics dartboard. Then set a task in your tasks dartboard as a subtask of that epic:
